Embracing Fatherhood Through Your Career with Mike Tan

Each of your life commitments is like a ball you’re juggling, but each one is made of a different material. Some things are made of rubber, so you can drop it and it will bounce and be okay. But some things, like your family, your partner, and your child are made of glass, which you cannot drop. This idea helps me decide where to prioritize my time, what are the things that I just cannot fumble?
— Mike Tan

In this episode of 2 Dads 1 Car, we speak with Mike Tan, a good friend of mine who works in the tech and finance spaces, and also devotes his time as a passionate advocate for marginalized communities and owner of a kung fu school.

In this episode, Mike and I focus on our experiences and thoughts on navigating the commitments of fatherhood with budding professional careers. Mike shares the stigma that new parents can sometimes face in corporate environments, and how his commitment to being fully present for his family steered him towards the path of a fractional practice in finance and tech. Upon making this career shift, Mike discusses how his newfound flexibility is allowing him to serve as a board member of the BC Provincial Health Services Authority, continue his advocacy for the Chinatown community, and run his kung fu school while supporting his family.

Big thanks to Mike for taking the time to share his story with us today! Please check out our website at 2dads1car.com and follow us on Instagram @2dads1car for our latest updates. I hope you love this episode!
